I just really have a fondness for working with grids. I create patterns using just pencil and grid paper. It occured to me to use a grid to make something more fluid. Clouds in the sky are constantly changing, and I wanted to use the grid to help me capture the impermanence of the sky at sunset. We can capture it with photographs but they always fall short. The experience of a sunset is better than anything photograph can convey. The impermanence of the ever changing edges of the clouds and the diminishing light leaves a viewer in awe of the moment. I wanted the squares of color to lead the viewer in an investigation. The colors and an impression of clouds leave room for a flexible interpretation of their edges leaving the viewer with the warmth and fondness of a real sunset.
